NAPA, Calif., July 5 (Sonoma Times) — Napa County sheriff’s deputies are referring a hit-and-run investigation involving Paul Pelosi, 86, to prosecutors after a July 3 crash in Yountville, where investigators said a parked car was struck by a brown convertible.

The sheriff’s office said Pelosi told deputies he had hit something but did not know what he struck. A preliminary alcohol screening test returned 0.00, and investigators said driving under the influence was ruled out.

Deputies did not arrest Pelosi, saying that is common in misdemeanor cases under California Penal Code 853.6. The matter was referred to the Napa County District Attorney’s Office, and officials said a California Department of Motor Vehicles re-evaluation referral would follow.

No injuries were reported. The new case comes after the Napa County District Attorney’s Office said in 2022 that it filed misdemeanor DUI-with-injury charges against Pelosi after a May 28 collision in Napa County and said a blood sample showed a .082% blood alcohol concentration.
