WASHINGTON, June 25 (DC Times Online) — Visitors planning a stop at the Lincoln Memorial will soon be able to tour its hidden undercroft, with the National Park Service set to open the 15,000-square-foot space June 25 by timed entry.
The Park Service says the area beneath the monument, hidden since the memorial opened in 1922, will feature interactive exhibits and multimedia presentations on the memorial’s construction and its place in American history and civil rights.
Admission is free, but advance reservations include a $1 service fee. Tickets can be booked through Recreation.gov or by calling 877-444-6777, and same-day tickets will be handed out starting at 8:45 a.m. at the Korean War Veterans Memorial kiosk on Daniel Chester French Drive, just south of the Lincoln Memorial.
The Park Service says the project is being funded in partnership with the National Park Foundation. The opening adds a new timed-entry attraction at one of Washington’s signature National Mall landmarks.
