SYDNEY, June 25 (World Daily Times) — Leah Stewart briefly woke in an intensive care unit this week after doctors reduced her sedation and removed her breathing tube, then told her mother and partner Fernando, ‘I love you,’ according to updates from her brother, Joshua Stewart.

Stewart was attacked by a shark at Coogee Beach in Sydney on June 13, and family updates reported by Fox News and ABC News said she spent about 10 days in an induced coma while undergoing multiple surgeries for serious injuries.

Joshua Stewart said Leah is now awake, no longer in critical condition and able to communicate with family and medical staff. ABC News reported that she also reunited with her young daughter, August, for the first time since the attack.

The family updates did not identify the hospital or the treating clinicians.
