WASHINGTON, June 25 (DC Times Online) — The Senate on Wednesday rejected Sen. Tim Kaine’s Iran war powers resolution 50-47, blocking an effort to require Congress to approve any further U.S. military action against Iran. Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky voted present.

Sens. Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska joined Democrats in support of the measure. Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania voted no. The Senate had advanced the same resolution 50-47 last month.

Kaine’s measure would have directed President Donald Trump to withdraw U.S. forces from hostilities involving Iran unless Congress authorized further action. The chamber also approved a separate House-passed Iran resolution 50-48 on Tuesday.

The vote came after Trump met privately with Senate Republicans and criticized them over Iran policy. Sen. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana later said Trump “raised his voice” and “I lost my temper.” After the vote, Trump wrote on Truth Social that it “puts Iran on notice.”
