WASHINGTON, June 15 (DC Times Online) — Sen. Mitch McConnell was admitted to a Washington hospital Sunday morning and is “receiving excellent care,” his office said.

David Popp, a spokesperson for McConnell, said Tuesday that the Kentucky senator was “fully engaged with staff on Senate business and Kentucky matters.”

McConnell’s office did not disclose why he was hospitalized or name the hospital.

McConnell, 84, was also hospitalized earlier this year. Popp said at the time that McConnell checked himself into a local hospital on the night of Feb. 2 for evaluation after experiencing “flu-like symptoms” over the weekend.

Popp said McConnell was discharged Feb. 10. After his release, Popp said McConnell was feeling better and would work from home for the rest of that week on doctors’ advice.
