Giantex lounge chair recall issued after customer’s finger was amputated; CPSC warns of “amputation hazard”

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has recalled blue Giantex outdoor lounge chairs, model NP10025NY, after one consumer’s finger was amputated when caught in the chair’s adjustable backrest — owners should stop using the chair and seek a refund.

  • Product recalled: Blue Giantex outdoor lounge chair, model NP10025NY, with an adjustable five-position backrest.
  • Hazard: amputation hazard — a pinch point in the adjustment mechanism can trap and sever fingers.
  • Remedy: Giantex offers a prepaid return or a destroy-and-photo option for a full refund; owners should stop using the chair immediately.
  • Units affected: About 1,155 chairs sold between August 2023 and October 2025.

What happened

Federal regulators and the manufacturer say the hazard arises from the chair’s five-position adjustable locking system. When fingers are placed near the adjustment mechanism while changing the backrest, they can become caught in a pinch point and be severely injured. The company and the CPSC disclosed one reported case in which a consumer’s finger was amputated while adjusting the chair.

“The adjustable backrest presents a pinch point that can trap and sever fingers,” the recall notice states.

  • Color: Blue.
  • Size: About 76 inches long, 23 inches wide and 13 inches high.
  • Feature: Adjustable backrest with a five-position locking system; backrest height adjusts from roughly 13.5 inches to 26.5 inches.

Where and when it was sold

About 1,155 chairs were sold on Amazon.com and on Giantex’s website between August 2023 and October 2025 for about $75 to $90. The chairs were manufactured in China.

Media outlets republishing the recall include Fox Business, NBC Right Now, and WSB-TV.

What Giantex and the CPSC are advising

Consumers who own the recalled Giantex lounge chair should stop using it immediately and contact Giantex for a full refund. Giantex will provide one of two remedies:

  • Return: Request a prepaid return package and send the chair back to receive a refund.
  • Destroy and document: Destroy the chair at home and provide photographic proof of destruction to receive a refund. If destroying, detach the headrest pillow and cut the fabric so the chair cannot be used, then submit pictures to Giantex.

Official recall details and the company’s instructions are posted on the CPSC recall notice.

Investigative points and consumer questions

  • Single reported injury: The recall was prompted by one reported amputation, but regulators acted because of the injury’s severity.
  • Low price point: The chairs sold for $75–$90, reigniting debates about safety risks in low-cost imports and the tradeoff between price and tested durability.
  • Return vs. destroy: Consumers without shipping access may find the destroy-and-photo option inconvenient; the CPSC and Giantex confirm photographic proof will be accepted for refunds.

Implications for Paso Robles, California

Economic impact: Local residents and small landlords who favor low-cost outdoor seating may face added time and hassle to arrange returns or document destruction for refunds. Businesses using affordable chairs for rentals or tasting areas could see short disruptions while replacing units.

Political consequences: The recall may raise questions about import safety standards, regulatory oversight and manufacturer accountability among conservative voters and local policymakers. Residents concerned about product safety may urge purchases from trusted local retailers.

Social effects: Families with young children and older adults should check patios and rental units; the incident underlines how a routine action — adjusting a lounge chair — can cause life-altering injury. Community groups and homeowner associations should share the recall notice to protect neighbors.

Practical applications for residents

  • Check now: Identify any blue Giantex lounge chairs with model NP10025NY and stop using them immediately.
  • Contact Giantex: Call 844-242-1885 or email support@giantex.com to begin the refund process and request a prepaid return or learn how to document destruction.
  • Preserve records: Save order confirmations, photos of the chair and any communication with Giantex to support your refund claim.
